Susan's Can't-Miss New Hotels for 2016 & 2017

One of my favorite aspects of being a travel advisor is finding unique destinations and hidden gems that will take your travel from ordinary to extraordinary. With a constant stream of new hotel openings, my job is to filter through them and present you with what I believe to worth keeping on your radar. Without further ado, here are a few places on my radar for the end of 2016, going into 2017:

Chablé Resort & Spa

Due to open in November 2016, this 5 star resort is located just 25 minutes by car from the historic city of Mérida, yet it feels worlds away. Set in the heart of the Mayan jungle, the location provides a serene, almost spiritual backdrop for clients to relax and recharge. Chablé’s world-class spa will be built alongside a private and natural cenote (natural formations commonly associated with the Yucatán Peninsula and considered sacred by the Mayans). In addition, guests will enjoy organic cuisine from a seasonal menu sourced directly from Chablé’s on-site gardens. Lastly, Chablé will offer an expansive cellar showcasing the largest private tequila collection in the world!

Cambodia Six Senses Krabey Island

Set to open in 2017, Six Senses adds an exciting island location in Cambodia to their list of exotic locations. The resort features 40 private pool villas set around the naturally landscaped 30-acre island. From Six Senses Integrative Wellness, detox and yoga workshops, to an outdoor cinema, and even a meditation cave, this new property offers the ultimate in health and wellness. (P.S. with a new flight from Saigon to Sikhounville, this is the perfect destination after a whirlwind trip to Vietnam!)

Six Senses Bhutan

Scheduled for a 2016 opening, Six Senses will be opening five intimate luxury lodges in the Kingdom of Bhutan, also know "The Happiest Place on Earth." With a total of just 82 guest suites distributed between the five locations of Thimphu, Punakha, Gantey, Bumthang and Paro, guests will be able to embark a 'Six Senses Journey" between each lodge, experiencing the culture like never before.

Six Senses Fiji

Scheduled for a late 2017 opening, Six Senses Fiji is easily accessible from Nadi International Airport via a 40-minute boat journey or 10 minute helicopter or seaplane flight. With its idyllic crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, tropical forests and fabulous climate, Fiji is irresistible. This newest property is located on Malolo Island, and will feature 26 pool bures (villas) and 60 luxury residences. Six Sense's philosophies of sustainability and wellness are reflected throughout the resort.

Il Sereno Lake Como

One of the most highly anticipated hotel debuts of 2016, this stylish new property is THE place to stay in all of Europe. Incorporating the designs of famed Milan-based designer Patricia Urquiola, guests are surrounded with beauty at every turn. In addition, Urquiola designed two all-wood motorboats exclusively for the hotel, so you can zip around the lake in style.

Atemporal Hotelito in Lima

A remodeled 1940's mansion featuring 9 unique rooms, Atemporal comes from the same design team behind the award-winning Hotel B. The hotel offers a high level of service and is located in Lima's chic Miraflores district. With 4 of the world's top restaurants, plenty of Michelin Star restaurants, an unparalleled contemporary art scene, top museums and beyond, Lima offers something for everyone.

The Silo, Cape Town

Opening March 2017, The Silo is a magical new property located in the centre of Cape Town, allowing guests to easily explore all that the city has to offer. At the hotel itself, guests can relax at the spa, take afternoon tea overlooking Table Mountain, sip champagne on the roof, swim in the glass pool, work off the city’s fine dining in the gym or enjoy a private tour of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa - located directly below the hotel. The hotel will offer 28 rooms, including  spectacular penthouse, all individually designed by world-renowned Liz Biden.
